Printed Tapered Leaky-Wave Antennas for W-Band Frequencies

Despite their great potential in communication and sensing applications, printed leaky-wave antennas have rarely been reported at mm-wave frequencies. In this paper, tapered operating 80 GHz are designed, fabricated experimentally characterized. While most continuous use subwavelength strips or other comparably small elements, work, the surface impedance is discretized very coarsely using only three square patches per period. With architecture, a wide range of reactance can be achieved while maintaining minimum feature size metallic pattern that feasible for circuit fabrication. As analytical solution bandstructure sinusoidally modulated surfaces inaccurate coarse discretization, we find it full-wave simulation. order to control side lobes effectively, aperture illumination according Taylor one-parameter distribution. A comprehensive experimental demonstration presented, including near-field far-field measurements. Therewith, verify designed reveal origin spurious features. Side effectively suppressed radiation reduced -18 dB compared main lobe.
